| Computed Tomography (CT) scanning is a rapid, painless diagnostic examination that combines x-rays and computers. A 64-slice CT scan produces 64 thin, cross-sectional images per rotation to detect slight variations in tissue density, which can indicate disease or injury. At this speed, an accurate scan of the heart can be performed in approximately 5 seconds and a comprehensive view of the coronary arteries in 5 heartbeats.
The office of Bryan Radiology Associates uses a 64-slice CT machine that has the capability for coronary imaging, peripheral CT angiography, virtual colonoscopy and computer-aided lung nodule analysis. The 64-slice CT is an excellent diagnostic modality and is an alternative to a MRI exam for patients with pacemakers, aneurysm clips, severe claustrophobia or obesity.
All patients 50 years old or older and all patients with a history of renal disease must have a documented recent (14 days or less) plasma creatinine before a CT contrast exam can be performed.
Scheduling and Preparation: CT scans may be scheduled through our central scheduling line at 979-776-0929. Examination appointments are available until 5:00pm, Monday to Friday. Some CT exams require a contrast agent to be ingested prior to study. Preparation kits are available for patients at Bryan Radiology Associates. Our scheduling representative will review any special instructions or preparation required for the examinations.
