Digital Mammography

Mammography remains the best tool available for early detection of breast cancer. Mammography is a simple x-ray that passes low doses of radiation through the breasts. Two smooth, flat plastic plates are used to compress the breast so the most tissue can be examined with the least radiation.

The Bryan Radiology Associates office is the only facility in the Brazos Valley that offers digital mammography. Digital mammography is more sensitive and uses a lower dose of radiation than conventional mammography. It is especially beneficial for women with dense breasts. All screening and diagnostic mammograms are performed on a Hologic Selenia digital unit and are interpreted with the assistance of computer-aided detection (CAD). CAD increases the detection of breast cancer by 20%. The mammography suite at Bryan Radiology Associates is ACR accredited and our technologists have over 50 years combined mammography experience.

Images are captured using an electronic x-ray detector, which converts the images into a digital picture for review on a computer monitor. The magnification, orientation, brightness, and contrast of a digital mammogram may be altered after the exam is performed to help the radiologist see certain areas more clearly.

The American Cancer Society recommends that women age 40 and over have annual screening mammograms.

Scheduling and Preparation: Exams maybe scheduled through our central scheduling representatives at 979-776-0929. Our representative will review any special instructions and preparation required for the exam. Prior mammogram films are required for comparison.
